Position Type: Substitute Classified

Paraeducators work in a variety of positions and locations, ranging from Preschool to the 8th grade.

Paraeducators work under the direction of the Certificated Teacher in a classroom, or following the direction of the school staff to ensure the safety of children on a playground or in a crosswalk.

Paraeducators work in many areas of a school, including but not limited to: Breakfast or Lunchroom Assistant, Crossing Guard, Resource Room, and classroom.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

Fill in for Pareducators who do some or all of the following:

Supervise/assist students at lunch, recess, music, library and possibly in a regular education classroom setting or out in the community.

Prepare classroom and materials as directed.

Work with students that have behavior problems.

Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students and staff.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and maintain positive customer relations with staff and service providers.

Work collaboratively with District staff and promote teamwork with co-workers.

Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct including the requirements of confidentiality.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or Equivalent

 

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Pass a criminal background check: current fingerprints on file or be willing to be fingerprinted at the cost of applicant.

Reliable transportation

 

ABILITY TO:

Follow written and verbal directions with minimal supervision

Speak, read and follow written communications in English

Possess the desire, skill and patience to work with students with special emotional, academic and social needs, which may include violent behavior

Demonstrate a caring attitude and establish an environment that encourages appropriate behavior and successful learning

Exercise judgment as to when to act independently and when to refer to higher authority
